How to choose a perfume

Start with when you will wear it, then pick a note family, then a size. Inspiration names help you recognise a profile. They are not the original bottle.

Decide the day, not the brand first

Office, gym, dates, and weddings ask for different weight. A fresh citrus is easier at a desk. A vanilla or oud blend is easier at night.

If you are buying a gift and you do not know the day, unisex woods or a clean musk is safer than a very sweet floral.

Read the pyramid

Top notes are the first ten to twenty minutes. Heart notes are the next few hours. Base notes are what remains on skin and cloth.

If you only like the opening of a perfume, you will be disappointed. Check the base if you care about the afternoon.

Use 20 ml when you are unsure

A smaller bottle lets you live with a scent in Indian weather before you commit to 50 ml or 100 ml.

Heat, humidity, and AC change perfume. What smelled polite in a shop can feel loud on a two-wheeler.
